Roskomnadzor holds preventive talk with Paramount Comedy representatives over South Park episode

Moscow, March 10, Interfax - The Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has summoned representatives of the TV channel Paramount Comedy for a preventive talk over the content of one of the episodes of the cartoon South Park, the agency press service said.

"Roskomnadzor has recommended that representatives of the TV channel adopt a more thorough approach to the selection of video materials and see if they comply with the requirements of the current legislation of the Russian Federation, and also the moral and ethical norms of Russian society when forming a broadcasting network," Roskomnadzor said.

"A monitoring showed that one of the South Park cartoon episodes aired by the TV channel demonstrated scenes promoting the formation in society of ideas that intimate relations between of-age persons and minors are in line with social norms," the agency said.

The Russian legislation envisages criminal liability for sexual actions with minors, it said.

The cartoon bears the information product sign "18+," is aired after 11:00 p.m. and is oriented toward an adult audience, the report said.
