08 February 2021, 13:02The Kremlin called Ukraine part of the Russian world
Moscow, February 8, Interfax - Russia will maintain relations with compatriots in Ukraine using soft force, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"The Russian world has been, still is, and will remain a priority issue for the Russian state, along with protecting this world, developing relations with this world, and various mechanisms to support this world," Peskov told reporters on Monday.
When asked whether Ukraine is part of the Russian world, Peskov answered in the affirmative.
"Very many Russians and Russian-speaking people live in Ukraine. They all belong to the Russian world. It would be very stupid to deny the cultural ties, the historical ties, common roots. We know that there is a tendency to deny this commonality in Ukraine, and we don't like it," Peskov said.
Russia will promote ideas of the Russian world in Ukraine using soft force, Peskov said. "Methods that contravene international law are never used," he said.
"Under international law, any state can conduct humanitarian operations, humanitarian methods of support, encourage humanitarian contacts, contacts between people, talk about literature, art, science," Peskov said.
An earlier meeting between the president and the permanent members of the Security Council addressed issues related to the Russian world and compatriots abroad. |
