Nalchik, January 26, Interfax - The Supreme Court of the Russian internal republic of Kabardino-Balkaria has upheld the acquittal of Yury Zalipayev, a follower of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization, banned in Russia, the court told Interfax.
"The case was heard following the appeal filed by the prosecutor. The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria agreed with the ruling of the first-instance court, that is, the Maysky District Court of Kabardino-Balkaria. Thus, the acquittal was upheld due to the absence of corpus delicti in the act," the court spokesperson said.
At the same time, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria recognized Zalipayev's right to rehabilitation.
The court clarified that the man was accused of public calls to carry out extremist activities and incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity. |
