09 June 2020, 17:38Synagogues in Russia gradually prepared to opening in order to minimize the risks
Moscow, June 9, Interfax - In spite of removing quarantine measures, synagogues of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia have not been opened as the Jewish leaders are afraid of infecting their parishioners accidentally and try to prevent any negative scenarios.
"There are many nuances, that should be considered and prepared before, not after the opening. Our priority is the health of our parishioners, we should spare no effort to prevent new cases of infection," the FJCR President Alexander Boroda told Interfax on Tuesday.
According to him, the Federation is preparing a plan of opening its synagogues in compliance with Rospotrebnadzor recommendations, but only in the regions where epidemic situation allows doing it.
"We certainly want to resume public prayers and full-scaled religious life, but we also understand the peculiarities of the community life, which only intensify the risks of spreading the infection. This matter requires a careful decision-making, weighing up all pros and cons," Boroda said.
Basing on Rospotrebnadzor recommendations, rabbis should calculate how many people would be allowed to a prayer, if it is possible to limit the entry "without offending anyone", if it it is possible to resume the prayer on all days or only when the Torah is read (on Monday and Thursday).
"Now we can definitely say that only people in personal protection equipment - in masks and gloves - will be allowed to the halls. We are preparing the marks for social distance on the floor and antiseptics for hands," Rabbi Boroda said. |
