30 May 2017, 14:51No gays from Chechnya have made requests for state protection – Moskalkova
Moscow, May 30, Interfax - Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova says she has not received any request for state protection from LGBT persons from Chechnya or their relatives.
"Despite my formal assurances that, as the Russian human right commissioner, I am ready to ensure state protection or assist law enforcement agencies, no person from this category or their relative has so far approached me with a relevant application," Moskalkova told Interfax on Tuesday.
Asked whether she is planning to visit Chechnya and address the situation surrounding the possible harassment of gays there on site, Moskalkova replied, "I made a relevant request with Russian Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin. I will make a decision on this issue depending on his response."
Moskalkova said that the one-month period for consideration of her request has not yet expired.
