Russian church hopes for fair settlement of Kosovo problem

Moscow, April 12, Interfax - The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has reaffirmed its support of the Serbian Orthodox Church's and the Serbian people's "hopes for a fair settlement of the problem of Kosovo's and Metohija's status, taking into account the legitimate interests of all residents of the province and the refugees that had to leave it."

At a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday, members of the Synod also supported a call for reconciliation between the residents of Kosovo and Metohija earlier issued by Patriarch Pavel of Serbia and the Bishops Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

A Serbian Orthodox Church delegation visited Moscow from February 27 to March 3, 2006. The visit was aimed at informing the Moscow Patriarchate and the Russian government about the Serbian Church's concerns about the upcoming negotiations on the status of Kosovo and Metohija.
