Russians have less dislike for nudists than for transsexuals - poll
Moscow, June 23, Interfax - Russians don't like either nudists or transsexuals but have less dislike for the former than the latter, a poll suggests.
Levada Center told Interfax that 12% of respondents in the survey said they sympathized with or were tolerant of naturists. The largest single proportion of this category of respondents - 18% - were people aged between 18 and 24. People with higher education made up 15%.
Nudists raised no emotions at all among 33% of those questioned, but 25% were annoyed with them, while 27% - a group where 41% were people aged 55 or older - felt indignant about them.
Transsexuals enjoyed sympathy or tolerance on the part of 8% of those questioned. In this group of respondents, people aged between 18 and 24 made up the largest single proportion, 10%. People with a higher education accounted for 9%.
Neutrality was the attitude of 23%.
At the same time, 30% were annoyed with and 36% indignant at transsexuals (38% or the largest single proportion of the former group were people with education lower than secondary, and people of between 25 and 39 years of age made up 33%; the largest single proportion of the "indignant" group, 46%, were people aged 55 or older, while those with secondary education made up 43%).
Levada Center said it had questioned 1,600 people in 45 Russian regions.
